Year 2 Term 1: Bristol and Beyond!

Going into Autumn, Year 2 are learning about Brunel’s legacy in Bristol. We will be finding out why Brunel was so important to Bristol and how his inventions have affected the modern world. Through studying sources, drama, art and storytelling, we will try to imagine what it was like on board the SS Great Britain for people of different classes.

Year 2 Term 2: Light Up The World!

This term, Year 2 are learning about India and Diwali, the Festival of Lights. This links with our Core Text, Rama and the Demon King. We will be comparing the geography of India and the lives of people who live there with our own lives and country. We will also be investigating simple electrical circuits in Science and using this knowledge to test which materials conduct electricity.

Year 2 Term 3 What a load of junk!

In Science, Year 2 are learning about how to identify how processes such as squashing, squeezing, twisting, ripping etc can affect different materials, compare the suitability of everyday materials for particular uses and observe and investigate the changes to a range of materials when they are heated up. 

In Literacy we will be reading: Mrs Armitage on wheels, Traction man is here and Angelica Sprockett’s pockets.

Year 2 Term 4: It’s a Small World

This term, Year 2 are learning about China. We will be comparing our lives with those of children in China. We will be developing our map reading skills to locate China, the United Kingdom and their capital cities, as well as looking at other physical features of China. Later on in the term, we will be looking at Chinese food. Yum!

Year 2 Term 5: Horrible Histories!

This term, Year 2 are learning about the Ancient Egyptians. Through role play, we will be imagining what it might have been like for Howard Carter on the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. We will be using different sources of information to ask and answer questions relating to the past and using the evidence to describe what life might have been like in Ancient Egyptian times. We will even find out how the Ancient Egyptians used to make mummies, draw tomb paintings and about their animal gods.

Year 2 Term 6: Wild Things!

This term Year 2 are learning about living things, which will include plants and animals. We will be looking at the different things plants need to stay alive. We will also be identifying the similarities and differences between ourselves and others.
