The government introduced the Pupil Premium Grant in April 2011. It is additional to main school funding and is intended to address current underlying socio-economic inequalities. It is based on the number of pupils on Free School Meals. Schools are free to spend Pupil Premium as they see fit, but must publish information on their websites to account for how they have used the money.
